“Be a Smart Piggy”

​YEAH! Church - Sunday, June 6, 2021

"Stories of Jesus” – We all know the story of the three little pigs and the wolf. Each of the little pigs chose different things to build their house with—straw, sticks and bricks. Turns out that not all building materials are the best to use. Jesus told a story about building, too. But in his story the important thing wasn’t what you built, so much as what you built it on.

Jesus’ Story – “The Parable of the Two Builders”

Matthew 7:24-27, NLT
24 “Anyone who listens to my teaching and follows it is wise, like a person who builds a house on solid rock. 25 Though the rain comes in torrents and the floodwaters rise and the winds beat against that house, it won’t collapse because it is built on bedrock. 26 But anyone who hears my teaching and doesn’t obey it is foolish, like a person who builds a house on sand. 27 When the rains and floods come and the winds beat against that house, it will collapse with a mighty crash.”

Engage:
• Jesus taught people many things, but he warned them it wasn’t good enough to just listen. What are we supposed to do about the things Jesus taught?
• Some people obey Jesus and they are like people who ‘build their house on rock.’ What does that mean?
• Some people don’t obey Jesus and they are like people who ‘build their house on sand.’ What does that mean?
• How can we make sure that we’re ‘smart piggies?’
