“Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.” (Matthew 6:33, NLT)

God promises to give us what we need if we will commit to living life according to His principles. That means loving God with all of our heart, soul, mind and strength; that means treating others the way we want to be treated; that even means treating your enemies kindly and praying for them. God knows we have needs, but He also knows that when we don’t wait for Him to give us what we need, we tend to push people aside, stop spending time with Him, and begin looking out for only ourselves. So, Jesus flipped our ideas about how to get what we need and told us that, first, we need to look to live life in the right way—God’s way—then God will give us what we need…we’ll be satisfied.

Think about it...
• Everyone has needs. Why do we sometimes act like it’s okay to hurt others to get what we need/want?
• Jesus knew that when we just focus on ourselves, we can be selfish, mean and greedy. What does He tell us we should be hungry and thirsty for?
• Righteousness is about wanting justice for everyone…just like God. What should that look like in our lives?
• When we focus on doing things God’s way, He has promised to meet our needs. What needs do you have? Why is it better to trust God to meet your needs than trying to do it all by yourself?

Prayer: Thank you, God, that when we work to live in a way that is pleasing to you, you promise to provide us with the things we need. Help me to trust you for this and to understand that sometimes what I think is a ‘need’ actually isn’t. You will provide what I truly need.
