YEAH! Church - Sunday, May 9, 2021Don't forget to thank all the women you know who help take care of you and make you feel loved...it's Mother's Day!
"Ten Commandments” – The only commandment we have left to talk about is the ninth one, “Don’t testify falsely.” What this means is that we shouldn’t lie, because God wants us to honour the truth by always being honest; it’s very important to him! Today’s Lesson - “Honour the Truth” Video Story: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=img1w-qQZRA (Douglas Talks – Don’t Lie) Lesson Overview: Exodus 20:16 - “You must not testify falsely against your neighbor.” The ninth commandment reminds us that God wants us to honour the truth. When we think about ‘testifying’ we often think of a court of law. By telling us not to ‘testify falsely’ or to lie about other people, it means that we should always be willing to share the truth and especially when other people are around to hear what we say. If we lie, we will become known as a liar and people won’t trust us. Did you know that the ‘father of lies’ is the devil? That means that when we lie, we are following Satan’s example and not God’s. As a Christian, we are to be like Jesus who never lied, not like his enemy. That’s right…when we do things that go against God, we are actually acting like followers of Satan not of God! It is very important to honour the truth by always being honest! Engage: • This commandment tells us not to lie about other people. Why might we be tempted to lie about others? • Sometimes we’re tempted to lie to avoid getting into trouble. But what happens? • When we lie, we often end up telling another lie to cover up for the first lie. What is better than having to tell more lies to cover up for a lie? • Being truthful can be hard, but God is pleased when we are. Who is happy when we tell lies? Theme verses: Mark 12:30-31 - “And you must love the LORD your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your mind, and all your strength.’ 31 The second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ No other commandment is greater than these.” Prayer - Thank you, God, for reminding us to always tell the truth. Help us to be the kind of people that others can trust—to be honest, to keep our promises and to be a good example of what it means to be a disciple of Jesus. ~ Pastor Jane
