Daily Devotional – Monday, August 16, 2021“We put our hope in the LORD. He is our help and our shield. 21 In him our hearts rejoice, for we trust in his holy name. 22 Let your unfailing love surround us, LORD, for our hope is in you alone.” (Psalm 33:20-22, NLT)
In these days of global viruses, international pursuits of power, disregard of human life, and our planet’s increasingly unstable environment, it would be tempting to become utterly hopeless. And the truth of the matter is that our situation, as the human race, is entirely hopeless when left in the control of humanity, which is why I place my hope in the only One who can be trusted—GOD! My firm belief in the Bible as God’s Word provides me with hope, even as the news blares its messages of death and destruction. I am not blind to what is going on, but I know who is in control…and it makes all the difference! Life on this planet is temporary—Praise God! Heaven is my future eternal home. The ‘darker’ our world becomes, the brighter my ‘light’ of hope must shine. If you, too, know the hope that comes from God’s sovereignty, Jesus’ promised return and the impermanence of earthly life, let me encourage you to be the light of God in this dark world…loving and caring for others, defending the helpless, spreading the hope that is yours to our world that desperately needs the hope that comes only from having a relationship with God. ~ Pastor Jane
