Daily Devotional – Tuesday, August 17, 2021Ephesians 6:18 - "Pray in the Spirit at all times and on every occasion. Stay alert and be persistent in your prayers for all believers everywhere."
The imperative of these words has struck home anew as we hear the current news coming out of Afghanistan. With the Taliban reasserting complete control, this is not a safe time for any person in the country who is not in full compliance to their ideology...and even then, the public's safety is not guaranteed. For those identified by the Taliban as 'Christians' this is an especially dangerous time. Please pray that God will protect those who follow the Way of Jesus--our spiritual brothers and sisters. Pray that they would have courage to live out the two greatest commandments, to continue to "love God with all their heart, soul, mind and strength and to love their neighbour as themselves." Pray that they will be diligent in their love of their enemies and in their prayers for those who persecute them. And let us show the same diligence in our prayers, both for Afghanistan's Christian populace and those who would choose to remove their influence. The international community may be at a loss for how to respond, but God never is--He's still in control bringing all things together for His good purposes. Even when we don't understand how anything good can come out of current events, He does! ~ Pastor Jane
