Last week we learned how Jesus could do miracles with food, but that’s not all He could do. He could make sick people well again and even bring people back from the dead! Today’s Lesson: Jesus Can Raise People to Life Jesus Makes Lazarus Live Again - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dca8SSxXCmM Lesson Overview: John 11:1-45 - Jesus received word that His friend, Lazarus, the brother of Mary and Martha was very sick. Rather than leaving right away, however, He stayed where He was for two more days. The disciples might have thought He wasn’t intending on going...it was dangerous for Jesus in Judea; in fact, a crowd there had tried to stone Him to death. When they found out He was planning to go, they tried to talk Him out of it, but He told them He needed to go–He had a job to do that was going to let people know more about God. Lazarus had died, but He was going to make Him come back to life! They traveled back to Bethany and Jesus talked with both Martha and Mary; they believed He was the Messiah and wished He had been there sooner so that Lazarus wouldn’t have died. They knew He could have healed their brother. What they didn’t know was that, even though their brother had been dead for four days, He could still make Him well! Jesus has power over death. Jesus had them roll the stone away from the tomb and then in a loud voice called out, “Lazarus! Come out!”...and he did!! Lazarus was still wrapped up in grave clothes so he would have looked like a mummy. Jesus told them to unwrap him and let him go free. They did and there was Lazarus...back from the dead...healthy once more. This week’s verse: John 14:2-3- “ There is more than enough room in my Father’s home. If this were not so, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you? When everything is ready, I will come and get you, so that you will always be with me where I am. ” Jesus has promised that we too will live with Him forever in heaven if we believe in Him, and obey His teaching. We can know that He can do this because we have already seen His power to raise dead people back to life. We can trust His promises...nothing is impossible for Him! ~ Pastor Jane Theme Verse for 2020: “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.” 2 Timothy 3:16+17

The Bible tells us that Jesus did many miracles to prove that He was the Messiah, the very Son of God. Today we’re going to talk about a couple of stories involving how Jesus did a miracle at a wedding and how another resulted in a huge picnic! Today’s Lesson: Jesus’ Miracles Provided for People’s Needs Jesus turns water into wine - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7plJa_qnVug Jesus feeds 5,000 with five loaves and two fish - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S6rj9cAJrWE Lesson Overview: John 2:1-12 - Jesus did many miracles when He lived on earth, but His first was at a wedding feast–Jesus turned water into wine! When He went to the wedding He hadn’t been planning on doing any miracles, but when the hosts of the party ran out of wine, Mary (Jesus’ mother) really wanted to help them out. Running out of wine at a wedding was really embarrassing! Mary told Jesus, but He said, “Dear woman, that's not our problem,' Jesus replied. 'My time has not yet come’” (2:4). You see, He had not done any of His miracles yet. But Mary instructed the servants to follow His directions. He told them to fill some jars nearby with water, then take some of it to be tasted by the Master of Ceremonies (the guy in charge of checking the wine before it was served to the other guests). And guess what? He thought it was the best wine he had ever tasted! Matthew 14:13-21 - On another occasion, a picnic broke out. A very large crowd had come to hear Jesus teach, but it was in the middle of the countryside–there were no stores or markets around to buy food. After they had been there all day, Jesus felt sorry for the crowd and wanted to provide them with some food to eat. A small boy had a lunch of five loaves and two fish that he was willing to share with Jesus. Everyone was instructed to sit down for supper, Jesus prayed over the food and then the disciples began handing it out–but it didn’t run out. Everyone ate as much as they wanted and when it was time for the clean-up, they gathered twelve baskets of leftovers. That’s a lot of leftovers. Jesus performed these miracles because He cared about people and wanted to help them. He still cares about us and helps us everyday. He also wants us to follow His example and find ways to help others, trusting that God will help us to do it. Theme Verse for 2020: “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.” 2 Timothy 3:16+17 This week’s verse: Matthew 6:25-26- “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? Look at the birds of the air: They do not sow or reap or gather into barns— and yet your Heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? ” Jesus did miracles to prove that He was who He said He was...the Messiah...the Son of God...God Himself! Over the next couple of weeks, we will look at some more of Jesus’ miracles and what they tell us about Him. ~ Pastor Jane

After a very exciting arrival as a baby, Jesus’ life as a kid was rather uneventful...we really know very little, so it’s safe to assume that His growing up years were pretty much like every other Jewish boy's. Today’s Lesson: Jesus–The Kid Years The early years in Egypt as a refugee - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ISmDaZgC_mk Jesus at 12 years of age, lost in Jerusalem found at the Temple- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j2vH6h8JR4k Lesson Overview: We don’t have many details about Jesus life between the time of His birth and the beginning of His ministry when He was thirty years of age; however, there are some things we do know.
Theme Verse for 2020: “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.” 2 Timothy 3:16+17 This week’s verse: Luke 2:52 - “Jesus grew in wisdom and in stature and in favor with God and all the people.” Jesus had to grow up and experience all the normal things that children go through, just like you–potty training, getting teeth, learning to walk, cleaning His room, eating His vegetables (even the ones He may not have liked), having to listen to His parents, learning to be a carpenter like Joseph, and taking care of His younger brothers and sisters when needed. Jesus already knew He was the Son of God, but obeyed His earthly parents, Mary and Joseph, too. He was a good son. We can be like Jesus by obeying our parents, helping out, being kind, listening and making wise choices. ~Pastor Jane

This week's post focuses on addictions and particularly addiction to drugs. Geoff, who grew up in a Christian home, tells his story. It began 'harmlessly' but overtime grew to the point of being uncontrollable. It had a hold of him and he was no longer the one in control. Find out how God enabled Geoff to regain control over his life and the addictions that had taken hold. "Fighting a Battle Between Drugs and God" (CBN.com)

Sometimes it's hard to know how to talk to children about certain topics...drugs being one of them. Here's some advice for introducing the topic to set the groundwork with younger children that helps you and them as they get older for future, more indepth conversations.
Often one of the most effective ways to 'talk with' our kids about difficult subjects is to LISTEN. Get some insight for having some of the tough talks in life with your older children.
YEAH! Church - Sunday, July 5, 2020 We've made it...the moment we've all been waiting for! After thousands of years, the Messiah has arrived--Jesus is born! Today, we focus on the Christmas Story--a pivotal moment in the history of people. God chose to become one of us! Over the next weeks, we will continue to explore the life of Jesus lived as fully God and fully man...come to be our Rescuer! ~ Pastor Jane _____________________________ Through the Bible in 2020 - Jesus’ birth is full of stories–magi, shepherds, a stable, murderous king and a narrow escape to Egypt! There was nothing boring about the arrival of the Messiah, yet so unexpected! Today’s Lesson - “The Promised Messiah is Born” Why and how Jesus came - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FrOBJo6LNfw Christmas - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nk58bHnJLD4 Lesson Overview: For years, the Israelites had waited for God’s promised Messiah–the one who would be their rescuer. And when He finally came, God made sure that people knew it! Matthew 1 - An angel tells Mary that she is going to give birth to the Messiah; Joseph then has a dream to make certain he knew too. Luke 1 - Zechariah and Elizabeth are told they will have a special baby, John, who will have a special job to do for the Messiah and when Mary comes to visit Elizabeth, John jumps inside Elizabeth–he’s excited! Luke 2 - The Roman emperor decides he wants to have everyone register for a tax, so Mary and Joseph must travel to Bethlehem. Mary went into labour, but there were no places to stay so she gave birth to Jesus in a stable (kind of like a barn). Angels announced Jesus’ arrival to shepherds who leave their sheep and come running to check out the new baby. Matthew 2 - The magi (or wisemen) follow a star that began to shine the night Jesus was born; they stopped in at Herod’s palace to ask for directions. When they found Jesus, they gave him gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh. Herod decided to kill the new king and had all the boy baby’s in Bethlehem murdered. But God protected Jesus, by warning Joseph, who took Jesus and Mary to Egypt. Theme Verse for 2020: “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.” 2 Timothy 3:16+17 This week’s verse: Matthew 1:21 - “Mary will have a son, and you, Joseph, are to name him Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.” The coming of the Messiah–Jesus–is too important to only think about once a year at Christmas time. How can you make sure that you remember God's wonderful gift all year round? |
