“Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.” (Philippians 4:9, NLT)

Being ‘pure in heart’ has a lot to do with how we spend our time, because the things we spend our time on naturally have an effect on us…whether good or bad. Everyone knows that in order to know someone we need to spend time with them and the more time we spend with them, the more we will become like them. God wants us to spend time with Him, because the more we do the more we will learn about Him, and the more we learn about Him the more we will want to be like Jesus. Jesus’ actions, thoughts and feelings always pleased God because He was pure in heart—sin never spoiled His heart or mind; if we follow Jesus, He has promised to give us the Holy Spirit to help us become just like Him! When we allow the Holy Spirit to change us, Jesus promises that we will live with Him in heaven. We will see God!

Think about it...
• To be ‘pure in heart’ we need to be careful how we spend our time. What happens if we never spend any time with God?
• The Bible warns us that we should be very careful about the things we think about. Why does that matter?
• Jesus wants us to be like Him. How can we do that?
• None of us is perfect and we all make mistakes. What can we do when we hurt God by having an impure heart?

Prayer: Thank you, God, that you have promised that those who are pure in heart will someday get to live with you. Please forgive me when I disobey you and help me to become more like Jesus, who never disappointed you.
