YEAH! Church - Sunday, February 28, 2021"EASTER is the Greatest Event in History!" – Lent is a special time of year when people who believe in Jesus get themselves ready for Easter. It’s not about buying and painting eggs, but rather choosing to do something special for Jesus to say ‘thank you!’
Today’s Lesson - “Getting Ready!” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-mAYIFMK8Kw (Kids talk about Lent) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=afzoWMTkKHY (Jesus in the wilderness) Lesson Overview: Lent often involves picking something to live without, just like Jesus went without eating for forty days! Could you live without candy, or television, or video games for forty days? It’s about choosing something that is special to you and doing without it in order to spend more time with God. What could you choose to live without for the next month? Lent can also include doing something extra special for Jesus, like helping others, giving to the poor or helping out around the house in a special way. When Jesus spent forty days in the wilderness it was to spend time with God. He had a big job ahead of him and wanted to know what God wanted him to do. As we celebrate Lent, it should also be a time for us to spend extra time with God; we should also look for ways to live our lives more like Jesus every day of the year. As Jesus’ followers it is our job to tell others about Jesus and show them God’s great love for all people. It’s our job to tell them the story of Easter! Engage: • Jesus went into the desert to spend time with God; he went without food the entire time. Why would he do that? • It is important for us to follow Jesus’ example—not necessarily going without food, but spending time with God. How much time do you spend with God? • If it was important for Jesus to spend time with God, it’s important for us too. Why? Theme verses: Could you learn these nine verses over the next six weeks? John 15:9-17 - “9 I have loved you even as the Father has loved me. Remain in my love. 10 When you obey my commandments, you remain in my love, just as I obey my Father’s commandments and remain in his love. 11 I have told you these things so that you will be filled with my joy. Yes, your joy will overflow! 12 This is my commandment: Love each other in the same way I have loved you. 13 There is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. 14 You are my friends if you do what I command. 15 I no longer call you slaves, because a master doesn’t confide in his slaves. Now you are my friends, since I have told you everything the Father told me. 16 You didn’t choose me. I chose you. I appointed you to go and produce lasting fruit, so that the Father will give you whatever you ask for, using my name. 17 This is my command: Love each other.” Prayer - Thank you, God, for Easter. It reminds us of the great things Jesus has done for us. He died for us so that we could live with you…always! Help us to follow his example and to obey you. ~ Pastor Jane
