YEAH! Church - Sunday, January 17, 2021"Fruit of the Spirit" - Waiting is hard! Waiting to get something or somewhere; waiting for your turn; waiting for anything! But what happens when we refuse to wait? We miss out on good things...and sometimes we can get cranky and whiney or even worried. Patience from God helps us to enjoy what is happening now and helps us not to always be running to the next thing...and the next thing...and the next thing! ~ Pastor Jane
Today’s Lesson - “It’s Good To Learn To Wait” The Fruit of the Spirit - Patience https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bgovFZUEORI (Douglas Talks) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-VRyu9fEEgs (Patience) Lesson Overview: Being patient and learning to wait can be hard, but not being patient causes lots of problems! When we don’t wait we can miss out on something really good. Remember how Douglas said that he couldn’t wait for his dad to cook the pancakes and ended up eating nasty pancake batter? Yuck! Sometimes impatience can make us really unhappy people...and no fun to hang out with. We can get cranky, worried or whiney. We miss out on having fun with what we have right now, because we’re too busy being impatient about the things we have to wait for. Being patient isn’t easy, but it is a fruit of the Spirit. That means that when you have God in your life, you should have an easier time being patient because He helps us to be! Engage: You have to work at being patient...it doesn’t come easy for anyone. When you’re feeling impatient, what can you do to be less so? Why not try these ideas: • Count down from ten or try reciting the alphabet backwards (give yourself something else to think about) • Find a fun activity to do while you wait (time goes slower when you watch the clock, so find something fun to do instead) • Offer to help if you can (sometimes when we lend a hand, things happen more quickly than when we just wait for someone else to do everything) • What other ideas can you think of to become more patient? Theme verses: Galatians 5:22-23- “The Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things!” Prayer - Thank you, God, that we have your Holy Spirit to help us learn to be patient. Help us become better at waiting and to remember to show appreciation, not just for the new stuff we have been waiting for, but for everything that we have already! Amen

Yeah! Church Sunday, January 10, 2021"Fruit of the Spirit" - In our world today, people worry about a lot of things. Unfortunately, when we worry we spend our time on the wrong things. Worry robs us of peace. When people worry, they often spend their time fighting. People say they want peace, but peace only comes from God’s Holy Spirit. The only way to experience His peace, and be able to share His peace with others, is to allow Him to help us not worry. ~ Pastor Jane
Today’s Lesson - “Know Peace - Share Peace” The Fruit of the Spirit - Peace https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vPv4MqtpfNM (Douglas Talks) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QKpE8fbT1gA ( Live at Peace) Lesson Overview: Jesus told us that one of the ways to have peace as His followers is to focus on doing God’s work, “Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need” (Matthew 6:33). As we put our best effort into obeying Him, our heavenly Father makes certain we have the things we need. This is why Jesus could tell us not to worry...about having food to eat...about having clothes to wear...about having a place to stay. God knows we need those things and He’ll provide them (Matthew 6:25-34). Sometimes, however, we don’t trust God and we spend our time working to get those things...food, clothing and a home...rather than on obeying Him. That’s when worry sets in, because we think we have to do everything, rather than relying on God. And when we worry, the Holy Spirit can’t grow peace in us, because we don’t trust God to keep His promises. When we don’t know God’s peace, too much of our time and energy is spent fighting for the things, rather than trusting God to help us just as He’s promised to do. It can be difficult to trust God 100%, but that doesn’t mean He isn’t 100% trustworthy...and that should help us relax, focus on what He wants us to do and know His peace! Engage: Instead of worrying about clothing, food and a place to live, what did Jesus tell us we should focus on? When we do, what did He promise would happen? How much can we trust God? How much do you trust God? Theme verses: Galatians 5:22-23- “The Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things!” Prayer - Thank you, God, that you have promised to take care of us when we live obediently for you. Help us not to worry about stuff you will take care of. Help us to know your peace. Help us to share your peace with others. Amen Sunday Lesson January 3rd"Fruit of the Spirit" - Last week, we learned how the Holy Spirit wants to grow God’s love in us. Another thing He wants to grow in us is joy. When we live for God we don’t have to always be serious or perpetually happy; God has something better for us known as ‘joy.’
The Fruit of the Spirit - Joy https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UQwHnmRBSHU (Douglas Talks) Lesson Overview: When we believe in Jesus, He helps us to see things from a new perspective. This new perspective allows us to have hope and joy, even when bad things happen. It isn’t that we have to be happy about bad things, but we can still have joy (or be glad) because we look at things from God’s point of view; bad stuff may happen but I can still have joy: • God loves me...very much! (John 3:16) • God will never leave me. (Hebrews 13:5) • The Holy Spirit will help me. (John 14:26) • Everything that God allows me to experience, is to help me become a better person or to be able to help others. (2 Corinthians 1:3-5) • Life on earth is really just a short amount of time; heaven is forever (1 John 2:17) Engage: How is ‘joy’ different from being ‘happy?’ How can we have joy even when bad things happen? What does a joyful Christian look like? Theme verses: Galatians 5:22-23- “The Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things!” Prayer - Thank you, God, that we can experience your joy even while we live in a world where lots of bad things happen. Thank you for giving us hope by allowing us to see things from your perspective--contained in the Bible. When we go through hard times, help us to experience your joy. You don’t expect us to be happy all the time, but we never have to despair because we know that things will get better. Help us to always trust you. Help us to be joyful! Amen Sunday Lesson December 27th"Fruit of the Spirit" - When we believe in Jesus and agree to live life according to God’s principles, the Holy Spirit comes to live in our lives to help us. He teaches us, He shows us the way to go, He reminds us of the things that are important to God; He changes us by helping us replace our bad habits with His better characteristics. We are like His garden and He grows good things in us. One of the things the Holy Spirit grows in us is love. ~ Pastor Jane
Today’s Lesson - “Growing God’s Kind of Love” The Fruit of the Spirit - Love- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rqC21JQBcaI (DouglasTalks) Lesson Overview: When the Holy Spirit lives in us, He produces God’s kind of love in us. We will behave differently from others around us. Lots of people talk about loving their family, their friends, favourite activites and food, like, “I love pizza!” But that’s not God’s love. 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 tells us what God’s love looks like: “Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud or rude. It does not demand its own way. It is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged. It does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out. Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance.” If you want to know how much you live with God’s love in your life, try replacing the word ‘love’ with you name. For example, “Jane is patient...” Oops already I can see that I have room for improvement! God’s love is absolutely amazing–you can’t earn it, or lose it. He loves us no matter what. And He wants us to love others the same way He loves us...even our enemies! God’s love is incredible and He wants us to become loving in the same way He is. It isn’t easy, but that’s why He has given us the Holy Spirit to help us. Engage: How much does God love us? (John 3:16, Romans 5:8) How much are we to love others? (Matthew 5:43-47) How can we show love to someone who is mean to us? (Romans 12:9-13) Theme verses: Galatians 5:22-23- “The Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things!” Prayer - Thank you God for loving us so much that you sent Jesus to die for us...even when we didn’t know you and weren’t your friends. Help us to love others the way you want us to. You want us to become more like Jesus, but we need your Holy Spirit’s help to do it. Thank you that we have the Holy Spirit to grow your fruit in our lives, so that we can please you, our heavenly Father! Amen YEAH! Church - 27 Sept 2020Through the Bible in 2020
After Stephen was killed for standing up for Jesus, a great persecution began. It wasn’t safe to be a follower of Jesus, so many believers moved. Wherever they went they told others the truth about Jesus. One man was determined to stop all this talk about Jesus; his name was Paul (also known as Saul). He got permission to throw believers in jail, but one day he had an unexpected encounter that changed his life! Today’s Lesson - “Paul Meets Jesus” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9eRXq-cKmr0 (Teaching Kids About Jesus - animated) Lesson Overview: Acts 9:1-9 - Paul had gotten permission to go to Damascus to find more Christians and bring them to prison in Jerusalem. However, on the way, Jesus met him. A light shined so brightly that it knocked Paul to the ground; then Jesus asked him, “Saul, why are you persecuting me?” When Saul asked who the voice belonged to, Jesus told him, “It is me, Jesus, whom you are persecuting!” After Paul asked Jesus what he wanted him to do, Jesus told him to go to Damascus and wait. When the light went away, Paul discovered he was blind and had to be led into the city by his friends. Acts 9:10-16 - Ananias, a believer living in Damascus, had a vision from Jesus. He was told to go and pray for Paul so that he could once again see. Ananias was scared of Paul; he had heard all about him. But Jesus told him to go because Paul had a special job to do that Jesus was giving him. So Ananias went. Acts 9:17-22 - Ananias placed his hands on Paul and prayed for him; immediately Paul could see again. Paul, who had been praying the whole time he was blind and refusing to eat, was so thankful to God. He got up, was baptized and then had something to eat to regain his strength. Over the next days Paul ended up going out into the city of Damascus, but rather than arresting Christians, he began telling people how to become one because he now believed that Jesus was the Messiah! This week’s verse: John 8:32 - “You will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” Paul hated the Christians because he thought they were telling lies about God. What he didn’t know was that he was the one who was wrong. Jesus met Paul and corrected him. Once Paul knew the truth, he couldn’t stay quiet! How should we behave when we know the truth about Jesus? Sometimes we’re tempted to stay quiet because we don’t want other people to tease us. But we need to be like Paul–telling everyone we know the truth! ~Pastor Jane Theme Verse for 2020: “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.” 2 Timothy 3:16+17 YEAH! Church - 20 Sept 2020Through the Bible in 2020 The early Church continued to grow as more and more people believed that Jesus was the promised Messiah. So many people joined that the Apostles just couldn’t do all the work that was necessary. So, the believers chose seven men who would take care of some of the leadership responsibilities. Stephen was one of those men. Today’s Lesson - “Standing Up For Jesus!” Story of Stephen https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_u9eN72iFjo (Crosswords Kids’ Club) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2B9CJZCVguM (Central Kids) Lesson Overview:
This week’s verse: Acts 7:56 - ““Look, I see the heavens opened and the Son of Man, Jesus, standing in the place of honor at God’s right hand!” ” It is very sad that people killed Stephen just for telling the truth and sharing about Jesus. However, Stephen knew he had done the right thing, especially when he saw Jesus! Sometimes people don’t want to hear the truth or they won’t believe us when we tell them about Jesus. They may call us names or threaten not to be our friend. But we can know, just like Stephen, that Jesus will never leave us, He is our friend, and He is pleased when we talk about Him with others. ~Pastor Jane Theme Verse for 2020:

Last week, we learned about Jesus’ gift to the believers–the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit now lives in everyone who believes in and wants to serve Jesus. After the Holy Spirit came something amazing happened...the followers of Jesus were able to do many of the same miracles Jesus had done! Today, we’re going to learn about a time when Peter and John healed a paralyzed man with the help of the Holy Spirit. Today’s Lesson - “Peter & John - Miracles Continue!” John & Peter help a lame man walk https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2u9EEbojnbY (Superbook) Lesson Overview: Acts 3:1-3 - Peter & John were going into the Temple to pray when they saw a man who had been unable to walk...ever! Everyday, he was carried to the gate so that he could beg for money. Can you imagine never being able to walk, to run, to play sports, to climb trees, to ride a bike? This man had never done any of those things. 3:4-6 - He had hoped to get some money from Peter and John, so he must have been disappointed when Peter informed him they didn’t have any money; then confused when Peter told him they would share what they had; then surprised when Peter told him to get up. How would you have felt if you were this man? Would you have believed Peter or thought he was just playing a cruel joke? 3:7-8 - Peter reached down and helped him up–instantly he could walk and even jump around. He was quick to thank God for the miracle; even though Peter had helped him stand, he knew it was God who had helped him walk. When good things happen in your life do you remember to thank God? 3:9-12 - Many people saw the miracle and many others recognized that this man who was excitedly jumping around and praising God was the beggar they had known for years who was born unable to. They were amazed by the miracle the Holy Spirit had done through Peter. As the crowds gathered, Peter realized that this was a great opportunity to tell people about Jesus...and so he did, right there and then! What would you think if you had witnessed this miracle? Would you have listened to Peter and believed what he said because of the miracle you had just witnessed? This week’s verse: 2 Corinthians 5:17 - “Anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun! ” The Holy Spirit continues to help those who believe in Jesus, especially when it involves helping others. He gives us special abilities, teaches us, encourages us and even changes us so that our thoughts, words and actions are the same as Jesus’ thoughts, words and actions. ~ Pastor Jane Theme Verse for 2020: “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.” 2 Timothy 3:16+17 YEAH! Jesus died on a cross to pay the penalty for the bad things we have done and continue to do, but He didn’t stop there. He rose from the dead! And promised us that whoever believes in Him will live forever in heaven with Him. He proved He was alive for forty days, before He went up to heaven with His disciples watching. They were sad to see Him go; but He told them to cheer up because He had a wonderful surprise for them. They needed to go back to Jerusalem and wait for His special gift to arrive–the Holy Spirit! Today’s Lesson: Jesus Sends His Gift from Heaven The Reason Jesus had to die Jesus sends the Holy Spirit and the Church begins... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KwJJJoSGw84 (Sharefaith Kids) Lesson Overview: Acts 2:1-3 - The disciples, Mary the mother of Jesus and His brothers and all the other believers were meeting together praying when suddenly they heard the sound of a loud rushing wind, like a powerful windstorm. As they looked around they saw little flames dancing above the heads of everyone present. Jesus’ gift, the Holy Spirit, had come. But that wasn’t all that happened. 2:3-13 - Everyone in the room began to speak languages–languages they had never known before. Outside of the house, people heard the noise too and came running. They were shocked. Many visitors from other countries were in Jerusalem that day and they heard people speaking in their languages and were amazed. What did it mean? There were some in the crowd who didn’t understand what was going on and they accused the believers of being drunk! 2:14-41 - Peter boldly got up and explained what was happening. They weren’t drunk–this was a special work of the Holy Spirit. Here was proof that Jesus was the Messiah they had been waiting for. Many people in the crowd were convinced and became believers of Jesus too. In fact, 3000 people were baptized that day and the Church was born! Through the Holy Spirit, the believers experienced new abilities from God, Peter preached powerfully and explained the truth of the Scriptures and those who hadn’t believed before were able to understand. The Holy Spirit helped the believers spread the good news about Jesus; He also helped the Church, those who believed in Jesus, grow! This week’s verse: 1 Corinthians 12:7 - “The Holy Spirit works in each person in one way or another for the good of all. ” Today, the Holy Spirit continues to help those who believe in Jesus. He teaches us and helps us understand the Bible; He guides us and shows us the right decisions to make; He comforts us and helps us keep our hope in God, when we experience difficult times; He gives us gifts and special abilities, so that we too can help the Church of Jesus grow! ~Pastor Jane Theme Verse for 2020: “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.” 2 Timothy 3:16+17 YEAH! Last week, we talked about the fact that there were many people–especially the religious leaders–who refused to acknowledge the miracles that Jesus did as proof that He was the Messiah. They decided it wasn’t good enough for them to just ignore Him; they put plans in motion to have Him killed! What they didn’t realize is that this was God’s plan too... Today’s Lesson - “Jesus Fulfills God’s Plans” The Reason Jesus had to die Jesus is arrested, crucified and resurrected for younger children - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HL8R158Ujp4 Jesus is arrested and is crucified for older children - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6h6J_BOtqQA For older children / parents - Understanding the Need for the Messiah https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3dEh25pduQ8 Lesson Overview: Today’s story doesn’t make any sense unless we go way back to the beginning, to Genesis 1-3. Remember what happened? God made the world ‘very good,’ but He also created the first people with the option to obey Him or disobey Him. Unfortunately, they chose to disobey and the God’s very good Creation was infected with sin, which poisoned everything! God promised Eve that one of her children, would eventually bring about the destruction of the serpent–he’s the one the convinced Adam and Eve to disobey God–and would provide a way for people to once again enjoy the kind of life God had made them for. That future child, the Messiah–Rescuer, was Jesus. But He didn’t come the way people expected–He wasn’t rich, a mighty warrior or conquering king...at least not yet. He was born to a virgin, grew up in a poor family and when He was old enough began to spread the news–He was the Messiah, but rather than rescuing the people from human rulers–the Romans, He had come to rescue them from sin. But that meant He had to die in our place! When someone breaks the law the punishment is a fine or jail time; when someone disobeys God and sins, the punishment is eternal spiritual death. Jesus, who had never sinned in His life and had no sin to pay for, chose to take the punishment for our sins. If we believe this to be true and decide to have a relationship with Jesus as our Rescuer, we can live forever with Him in heaven! (John 3:16) This week’s verse: Romans 10:10- “For it is by believing in your heart that you are made right with God, and it is by openly declaring your faith in Jesus that you are saved. ” Jesus had to die to make all things right and very good again; it was the only way we wouldn’t haven’t to take the punishment ourselves. We can be forgiven of the bad stuff we do and become a child of God. Jesus is still in the process of making all things new and when He comes back as He promised He’s going to complete the job! That’s right, He’s alive, today! But that’s a story for next week... Jesus did lots of miracles when He was on earth, which proved He was the Christ–the long awaited Messiah! But some people refused to believe, especially the religious leaders. They were jealous that Jesus was so popular and many chose to ignore Jesus’ miracles and to discredit Him–they refused to believe He was the Messiah, no matter what He did. Today’s Lesson: When Miracles Aren’t Enough Why did people have trouble believing in Jesus? Learning from Nicodemus: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZQDGTtfwDSY The Story of Jesus from the Book of John: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G-2e9mMf7E8 For older children / parents - Understanding Miracles: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dX0eAgVvGLg Lesson Overview: Today, there are many people that refuse to believe that Jesus is the Son of God–the promised Messiah who can rescue us from sin and forgive us so that we can experience a relationship with God. It was no different when Jesus’ lived on earth. Some people didn’t care how many miracles He performed; they were determined to refuse to believe. (Matthew 12:14) When Lazarus was raised from the dead, instead of admitting that Jesus was the Messiah, the religious leaders plotted to kill not only Jesus but Lazarus too–they had to get rid of the proof of a miracle. (John 11:38-44) When Jesus healed a man who had been tormented by demons, the religious leaders said that the reason He could perform this miracle was because He got His power from Satan. Jesus pointed out how silly this was–it made no sense that He would use a bad source of power to do good! (Mark 3:20-30) Even after Jesus healed a man born blind, rather than admit that a miracle from God had taken place, they threw the man out of the Temple and accused him of being full of himself–they didn’t like the idea that this man knew better about Jesus and where his miracle working power came from than they did. (John 9) This week’s verse: John 20:31- “But these are written so that you may continue to believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing in him you will have life by the power of his name. ” Just like the religious leaders, we may have lots of reasons why we choose not to believe that Jesus is the Messiah. Who but God could perform the miracles that Jesus did? No one! We have all the proof we need to believe that Jesus is God’s Son, but it is still up to us to choose to believe or not. ~Pastor Jane Theme Verse for 2020: “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.” 2 Timothy 3:16+17 |
