YEAH!Church - Sunday, February 21, 2021Fruit of the Spirit - The Holy Spirit’s fruit of self-control helps us to control ourselves, just like Jesus did. Even when Jesus might have been tempted to do the wrong thing, He always chose what was best because He was able to control himself.
Today’s Lesson - “Controlling Yourself” The Fruit of the Spirit - Self-Control https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KoLqyBDT-ik (Douglas - Self-control) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mc-x4qKY6Wc (Jesus is Tempted) Lesson Overview: Matthew 4:1-11 When Jesus lived on earth as a person, He never disobeyed God but always chose to do the right thing. How was this possible? No other person on earth has ever been able to do that! It’s because Jesus had self-control. He never gave into temptation, even when Satan tried to get Him too. Jesus, before beginning to preach and heal people, went out to the desert to spend time with God. He didn’t eat for forty days; He must have been incredibly hungry. But when Satan tempted Him to turn stones to bread, Jesus was able to resist the temptation. He could have done it, but knew it would not make God happy and so didn’t. It was more important to spend time with God than prove He could turn stones to bread. Engage: • Jesus lived on earth as a person. How could He live without ever disobeying God? • Satan wanted Jesus to disobey God. Why was it important for Jesus to always obey and never do wrong? • Jesus may have been tempted, but He never gave in. How can we be like Jesus and resist doing what we know is wrong? Theme verses: Galatians 5:22-23- “The Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things!” Prayer - Thank you, God, for Jesus’ example. With the Holy Spirit living inside us we can control ourselves just like Jesus did. Help us to always choose to obey you. ~ Pastor Jane
