“As Paul spoke on and on, a young man named Eutychus, sitting on the windowsill, became very drowsy. Finally, he fell sound asleep and dropped three stories to his death below.” (Acts 20:9, NLT)

After many years of traveling around and telling people about Jesus, Paul became convinced that God wanted him to go to Jerusalem to continue teaching people there, but he knew that his life would be in danger. On his way to Jerusalem, he stopped by many towns to encourage the believers and to say ‘good bye’—he was that certain that he would not see them again. In the town of Troas, Paul spent a week with the believers, but on his last night preached long into the night—past midnight. Understandably, this people grew tired and one young man name Eutychus, who had been sitting in a window, fell asleep. Unfortunately, he fell out of the window, which was on the third floor and he died. Everyone rushed down to see, but God performed a miracle through Paul, and Eutychus was brought back to life—much to everyone’s relief! Paul continued his journey the next day to Jerusalem.

Think about it...
• Paul knew that God wanted him to go to Jerusalem. Why might Paul have hesitated?
• Paul was sure that this was going to be a one way trip. What did he do on his way?
• After listening to Paul preach for hours, Eutychus grew tired. What happened?
• Paul brought Eutychus back to life and everyone was relieved. What did they do after that?

Prayer: Thank you, God, for Paul’s obedience, even though he knew that he would face many troubles. Thank you, too, that Paul’s last visit to Troas didn’t end with a tragedy because Eutychus came back to life. Thank you for the miracles you can still do for us.
