Season 2: Only the Messiah Could...
Episode 6: “Jesus Could Free People from Demons” Today’s Bible Bite: Mark 5:1-20 Video Story: Note to Parents: Please view stories first to see which is the most appropriate for your family. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MFebxlsO9Sk https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q8U6HGVlJGU “Go home to your family, and tell them everything the Lord has done for you and how merciful he has been” (Mark 5:19). One day, Jesus met a man who was in terrible trouble. This man was controlled by demons and they made him behave very badly. Demons are evil spirits who hate God and people. The man could not get rid of the demons–he needed God to help him. When Jesus saw him, He knew immediately what had to be done. He told the demons to go away! And they had to; they had no choice because Jesus is stronger than any evil spirits. But they still wanted to cause trouble and asked Jesus to send them into a herd of pigs. We don’t know why Jesus gave them permission, but He did, and the demons made the herd of pigs stampede off a cliff and drown in the sea. The people of the town were scared of Jesus. He had rescued the man, but all their pigs (about 2,000) had drowned. The people asked Jesus to leave. The man who was now free of the demons wanted to go with Jesus, but He told him to stay and tell others about how God had helped him. He did just that, telling everyone in the surrounding towns and villages. Think about it...
Prayer: Thank you, God, that we don’t need to be scared of demons. They have to obey you because you are stronger than evil spirits. When we choose to follow you, you protect us. Thank you for this story of how Jesus freed the man from demons; we know that you are able to keep us safe too!
