YEAH! Church - Sunday, July 5, 2020 We've made it...the moment we've all been waiting for! After thousands of years, the Messiah has arrived--Jesus is born! Today, we focus on the Christmas Story--a pivotal moment in the history of people. God chose to become one of us! Over the next weeks, we will continue to explore the life of Jesus lived as fully God and fully man...come to be our Rescuer! ~ Pastor Jane _____________________________ Through the Bible in 2020 - Jesus’ birth is full of stories–magi, shepherds, a stable, murderous king and a narrow escape to Egypt! There was nothing boring about the arrival of the Messiah, yet so unexpected! Today’s Lesson - “The Promised Messiah is Born” Why and how Jesus came - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FrOBJo6LNfw Christmas - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nk58bHnJLD4 Lesson Overview: For years, the Israelites had waited for God’s promised Messiah–the one who would be their rescuer. And when He finally came, God made sure that people knew it! Matthew 1 - An angel tells Mary that she is going to give birth to the Messiah; Joseph then has a dream to make certain he knew too. Luke 1 - Zechariah and Elizabeth are told they will have a special baby, John, who will have a special job to do for the Messiah and when Mary comes to visit Elizabeth, John jumps inside Elizabeth–he’s excited! Luke 2 - The Roman emperor decides he wants to have everyone register for a tax, so Mary and Joseph must travel to Bethlehem. Mary went into labour, but there were no places to stay so she gave birth to Jesus in a stable (kind of like a barn). Angels announced Jesus’ arrival to shepherds who leave their sheep and come running to check out the new baby. Matthew 2 - The magi (or wisemen) follow a star that began to shine the night Jesus was born; they stopped in at Herod’s palace to ask for directions. When they found Jesus, they gave him gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh. Herod decided to kill the new king and had all the boy baby’s in Bethlehem murdered. But God protected Jesus, by warning Joseph, who took Jesus and Mary to Egypt. Theme Verse for 2020: “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.” 2 Timothy 3:16+17 This week’s verse: Matthew 1:21 - “Mary will have a son, and you, Joseph, are to name him Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.” The coming of the Messiah–Jesus–is too important to only think about once a year at Christmas time. How can you make sure that you remember God's wonderful gift all year round?
