Bible Bits & Bites devotional for families
Season 2: Heroes of the Bible
Episode 24: “Moses – On the Run!”
Today’s Bible Bite: Exodus 2:11-15

Video Story:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6gOeVzYpGrU (Moses kills an Egyptian, from “Prince of Egypt”)

“Moses fled from Pharaoh and went to live in the land of Midian.” (Exodus 2:15b)

When Moses grew-up he lived in the palace, but he understood he was an Israelite. One day when visiting a worksite, Moses saw one of the Egyptians beating an Israelite. When no one was looking, Moses killed the Egyptian. Unlike the video clip, Moses thought he had gotten away with the murder, but the next day some of the Israelites made it very clear that they knew about what he had done…and they weren’t interested in his ‘help.’

Now that Moses knew the news of what he had done was spreading he ran for his life. Pharaoh was intent on capturing Moses and punishing him. Moses made it to the land of Midian where he would live for forty years, safe from Pharaoh.

Think about it...
• Moses knew that he wasn’t an Egyptian and when he grew-up he wanted to get to know his people. Where did he go?
• He saw an Israelite being mistreated by an Egyptian. What did he do?
• Moses thought the Israelites would appreciate his stepping in. But how did the Israelites respond to Moses?
• Moses was now a hunted man; Pharaoh wanted him dead for killing the Egyptian. How did Moses escape?
Prayer: Thank you, God, that even when we make mistakes, you can still help us. Moses took matters into his own hands and killed a man. Pharaoh wanted him dead, but you protected Moses. Thank you for Moses' story, which reminds us that you can and will help us even when we make mistakes.
